Of course that's OK
So dialogues were hard for me at the beginning, but I found a few good tips. First is to know that dialogue, including a bunch of short lines in rapid succession, is fine and it can be unavoidable. The trick is how you write it though. For example, take this dialogue:
"Hey."
"Hey, what's up?"
"Sarah dumped me."
"Oh I'm sorry Matt."
Short, quick, basic, too much of it gets boring to read, and adding "Matt said" after two of them isn't enough. So you need to add in the senses. What are they doing? What are they seeing? Are they moving? Is something happening in the background? If you can act it out with someone else that's even better. Try and get into it. Then add in the small detail and it can come out like this:
"Hey," Matt greeted, his eyes downcast.
"Hey, what's up?" Jason responded, concern lacing his voice as he took a step closer.
"Sarah dumped me." Jason's heart broke for Matt. He had really liked the girl and he was clearly upset. He wrapped his friend in a hug, rubbing his back slowly in an attempt to console his grieving buddy.
"Oh I'm sorry Matt," was all he could think to say. Just then Matt's phone started to ring and Jason pulled away.
So on and so forth. Basically make sure you don't forget to write int he surroundings. A few lines here or there without it is fine, but don't let it get away from you. Happy writing!
