“Bye dad!” Hiccup waved as his father made his way down the front walk towards the waiting taxi. It was set to take him to the airport; he needed to travel to Montreal for business and his flight left in just a few hours. Hiccup would always laugh at the past few days, watching his father attempting to pick up some French to impress the people he would be meeting and failing horribly. When he had tried to say ‘It’s nice to meet you’ he accidentally said ‘There is a fish in my shoe’. That had been the final straw for Stoick, and Hiccup intended to make sure that he never forgot that one. For possibly the first time ever Hiccup had been glad he had taken French class in school.

“Bye son! And remember, no parties!” Stoick called as he got into the car and rolled down the window.

“Oh yeah, I’m going to have all my school friends over! A whole 0 people; it’ll be a blast!”

Stoick didn’t respond to Hiccup’s usual sarcasm, but he did wave out the window as the taxi took off. Hiccup watched the car drive away and disappear down the street before he closed the door behind him. He glanced up at the clock which stated that it was just past eight a.m., and he decided that since he had nothing better to do today he would head to camp.

Hiccup threw on a sweater and his new scarf before heading out the door, making his way along the sidewalk and towards the forest. The winding suburban streets took him a few minutes to navigate, but it was a route that had been quickly burned into his memory and he was pretty sure he could now walk it with his eyes closed. Not that he’d want to; he’d probably get run down by a speeding motorist or something.

The forest approached as Hiccup rounded the bend, and as he walked he spotted his point of entry into the thick grouping of trees. The route from through the forest wasn’t well beaten, so it was extremely well hidden from the street. Hiccup sometimes feared he had gotten lost, but he always managed to find his way through eventually.

When Hiccup arrived at camp, it almost seemed like a ghost town. There was nobody out in the main area, but since it was daytime that was pretty normal. He noticed the curtains flutter in the infirmary and headed over. It was probably just Meatlug, but she would probably be able to tell him who was lurking around.

“Knock knock,” Hiccup called as he opened the door and entered the main room. What he found there made him pause and shocked him momentarily. Lying on the bed was Toothless and on top of him, on her hands and knees, was Meatlug. Hiccup realized that she was examining his foot after a split second which made perfect sense, but the look on their faces was more akin to them being caught in a more compromising position and Hiccup couldn’t help but laugh. “Well well, what have we here?” Hiccup asked jokingly.

“Um, it’s not how it looks,” Toothless commented, blushing slightly. Meatlug was shaking her head and laughing slightly at the comedy of the situation, but she made no attempt to move. She simply returned to work inspecting Toothless’ foot.

“Sure it’s not,” Hiccup teased, but before anything else could happen he heard someone walking up the steps behind him.

“You know, this is the first time I’ve come into this camp and not been instantly attacked by…” Jack started before he caught a glimpse of what was going on. “Well well, what do we have here?”

“It’s not how it looks,” Toothless repeated, however this time his voice had turned into more of a growl.

“So, Hic, what’re you doing here at this time of the day?” Meatlug asked to break the tension that was forming in the room. She had finally moved off of Toothless, deciding that his stump was healing properly and his foot was working well.

“Oh, well, my dad is out of town for a few days and he just left, so I had nothing better to do.”

“Well, I’m done with Toothless now so feel free to have fun with him,” Meatlug said, which caused Hiccup to turn a little red and Jack and Toothless to shoot daggers from their eyes at her. She smirked to herself, knowing perfectly well what she had said, before heading out the other door and into the next room.

Toothless pushed himself out of the bed and slowly applied weight to the prosthetic, making sure it was attached properly. He trusted Meatlug entirely, but after one incident he wasn’t eager to have another one.

“So, Hiccup, I was going to do a day patrol around camp. Want to join?”

“Sure!” Hiccup said, but he immediately remembered who was standing next to him and looked over at Jack with an apologetic look.

“Well, it was nice to see you Hic. Later!” Jack said before flying off rather quickly. Hiccup knew that he would be paying for this later, but he’d cross that bridge when he came to it.

Hiccup helped Toothless down the stairs at the front of the cabin –not that he needed it but it was an appreciated gesture nonetheless– and they were off into the forest before any more words were exchanged.

“Wearing the scarf already I see,” Toothless pointed out with a smile.

“It’s chilly today,” Hiccup defended, even though it was still 7 degrees out. In reality there was no need for a scarf that day; even Hiccup’s jacket was starting to feel a little heavy.

“You have any plans since you have the house to yourself tonight?” Toothless asked as they took a left at the first fork in the path. It was a shorter route than if they had gone right, making a tighter circle around the camp than the other meandering path. However it was more scenic.

“No, just a private night in. I mean it’s not like being alone for the night is new to me or anything, seeing as my dad always used to be gone overnight, so this isn’t particularly exciting or anything. What about you? Any plans for tonight?”

“No, just a quiet night in as well,” Toothless lied. “I didn’t get much sleep last night so I’m going to get extra tonight.” Another lie. In fact Toothless had made plans several days ago to go over to Aster’s that night, and he would be sleeping over again. He didn’t want to let too many people know though, not knowing exactly where their relationship was going, and he definitely wasn’t going to tell people that he had packed two days prior in excitement and was sure to bring his favourite rainbow socks. Toothless decided they needed to drop the topic before any contradictory details slipped out.

...

Hiccup slipped in the front door and flopped down onto the couch. He had been walking with Toothless longer than he thought he had and his legs had become exhausted. Toothless had run off in quite a rush when he had realized the time, and Hiccup couldn’t understand where all of that energy had suddenly come from. Fortunately Hiccup had just enough energy left to walk home.

He rested for nearly twenty minutes before he managed to pull himself off of the couch and into the kitchen for something to eat. After eating some of the leftover pasta cold he immediately pulled himself up the stairs with great assistance from the railing where he miraculously got into his pajamas and flopped onto his bed. It was only seven o’clock by that point and he knew it was too early to go to bed, but at least now he would have the option to whenever he so chose.

Hiccup reached for one of the books he could reach and cracked it open, discovering it to be one of the Percy Jackson books. He had read the whole series already, so he had no problem jumping into one of the books in the middle of the series. It was The Titan’s Curse, and he was looking forward to seeing Nico again.

When Hiccup turned the page to chapter fifteen, he decided that it was time to sleep. He had been reading for nearly two hours and he was really starting to get tired. Sleep was eagerly knocking at his door like an old friend coming for a visit and he was ready to welcome its embrace. He turned off his lamp and pulled the covers over himself, but right as his eyes slid fully closed he was disturbed by a knock on the window. Snapping back to attention he found Jack sitting on the windowsill, looking in.

“Jack, what are you doing here?” Hiccup asked. Jack pushed the window open and crawled his way in before responding.

“You had said that your dad was out of town. I thought I’d keep you company.”

“Um,” Hiccup started, turning on the lamp once more so that there was more illumination than the nearby streetlight flooding in through the still open window, “I’m sorry Jack, I was just about to go to bed.”

“Could we cuddle for a bit?” Jack asked hopefully.

“I don’t know Jack; I’m really tired.”

“Come on, you don’t even have to do anything! It’s literally just lying there!” Jack pointed out.

“Jack…”

“Please Hiccup? Just this once?”

“Oh alright,” Hiccup finally conceded. He supposed this was payback for earlier that day when he had brushed Jack off for Toothless so quickly.

Hiccup had to do a double take when Jack moved, taking his place behind Hiccup and pulling him close so fast Hiccup couldn’t even see him. Jack’s cool body was surprisingly welcome, contrasting the warmth of the blankets perfectly. He quickly formed to Jack’s shape and soon they were lying there contently. After several wordless minutes Hiccup could feel his consciousness drifting, and he moved even further into Jack before he lost himself to slumber.

...

When Hiccup awoke the next morning, he could tell something was different without even opening his eyes. His arm moved and he realized that Jack was no longer with him, and he had to admit a larger part of him than he originally thought was sad that he wasn’t there. He took in a deep breath and sat up, pulling his knees close to his chest but otherwise not moving. He noted the closed window, assuming Jack had closed it on his way out in the middle of the night.

Hiccup had been sitting there for about a minute when he heard footsteps coming up the stairs. It confused him at first, knowing that his father wouldn’t be home for at least another two days, but when he saw that it was Jack carrying a tray an overwhelming sense of happiness enveloped him.

“Morning sleepyhead,” Jack said, entering the room. Hiccup discovered that it held a bowl of cereal with milk and a spoon and it hit him that Jack was giving him breakfast in bed. It almost made him forget the fact that Jack must’ve been rummaging through the kitchen cupboards to find everything. “I just picked a random box of cereal, I hope it’s one you like.”

“It’s perfect,” Hiccup said as he took a bite of the cereal, enjoying the fact that Jack had managed to pick his Mini Wheats over his father’s Cheerios. When Jack’s stomach rumbled Hiccup was confused and had to ask, “Have you eaten? Do you want some cereal?”

“No thanks, I’ll be fine. I mean I only ‘eat’ one thing anyways.”

“Oh, right,” Hiccup said, putting his spoon back down slowly. As if to add to the situation Jack’s stomach rumbled for a second time.

“Sorry,” Jack apologized, looking slightly embarrassed at the whole situation.

“Jack, when was the last time you had anything?”

“Last night,” Jack lied, but Hiccup saw right through it. Jack cursed at himself for being such an awful liar when it came to people he cared about or didn’t want to bother. “Ok about two days. And a half. Maybe three. But I’m telling you I’m fine.” Again, Hiccup didn’t believe him.

“Here,” Hiccup said, pulling down on the shoulder of his shirt to expose it to Jack. The vampire was confused at first but when Hiccup glanced at his shoulder once more he caught on.

“Hiccup, I couldn’t.”

“You’re hungry…thirsty…whatever. Besides, I have today off and I can regain my strength with the rest of my cereal.”

“Hiccup, I couldn’t put you in danger like that again and…”

“Jack, it’s fine. I trust you,” Hiccup interrupted to reassure the vampire once more. He hammered the point home with a smile and Jack smiled back as a silent thank you.

Jack leaned in close but instead of going for Hiccup’s neck, he went for his lips. Jack kissed them slowly, the pair’s lips moving in gentle unison. When Hiccup pressed his tongue against Jack’s lips they opened to allow the boy access, and their kiss deepened. Jack gently caressed the back of Hiccup’s head, and Hiccup happily leaned into the cool touch. Jack was the first to pull away, before the kiss could get too serious and he wouldn’t want stop.

Jack moved slowly, placing soft kisses along Hiccup’s jawbone and upper neck before exposing his fangs and pressing gently into where Hiccup’s neck met his shoulder. He made sure to break the skin as softly as possible, wanting the one he held closest to feel as little pain as possible. He was extra careful not to inject any of his own poison and take only blood, a task that was much easier when he didn’t have to worry about sucking out the poison of another vampire.

Hiccup was surprised with how delicate Jack was this time. He definitely felt a small pinch in his shoulder as Jack broke the skin and as the blood started to flow there was a mild throbbing in his neck and shoulder, but it was nothing he couldn’t bear. He wrapped his arms around Jack, gently grabbing the material of the vampire’s sweater but not hard enough to make him think that something was wrong or that he had changed his mind. After a few seconds, however, Hiccup got used to the sensation and his grip loosened further as he relaxed.

When Jack pulled away a few seconds later he wanted to smile at Hiccup, but his fangs would still be stained red for a minute or so and he figured showing that off might not be the best idea. He did notice Hiccup’s eyes drooping, but he knew the boy should try to eat something first.

“Hiccup, eat,” Jack said without showing any teeth to Hiccup. He handed the brunet the bowl of cereal and he ate a few bites before lying back down.

“I think I need to rest for a minute,” Hiccup said when the bowl was set down once more, this time nearly empty.

“Alright, I’ll be right here,” Jack assured, allowing Hiccup to curl into him once more. The vampire brushed the hunter’s hair gently as he fell back to sleep, and as he rested Jack slowly joined him in a state of unconsciousness once more.

first things first, the higher the numbers are, the higher the temperature should be! 7 degrees is deadly cold.
second things...second, NOAH WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH ASTER, HMMMMMMMM? DID SCRIBBLES TELL YOU ABOUT THAT OR ARE YOU A GENIE WHO JUST KNOWS EVERYTHING
and third. i uh.
would you mind terribly if i um
tried to incorporate these stories into the comic
like they'd just refer to them and hiccup could have his new scarf and i could draw stoick eating his cheerios
because it's all canon to me BESIDES THE CANADA THING and i'm honestly so in love with you and everything you've written and i can't imagine this not being part of the full story
and i really love the idea of jack being able to go to the camp and everyone just sort of accepts him
they're not friends or anything but they can kind of trust him now and that's cute enough for me
